This weekend is extra special as we celebrate my grandfather’s 90th birthday. In this life that is so over scheduled and over run with “stuff” I’m reminded of just how important it is to stop and honor those who have come before us. The knowledge, love, wisdom, business sense, compassion, sense of safety, feeling of security, and laughter my grandfather has brought to my life is something I want to not only honor but pass on to my family. There’s nothing more important to me than enjoying this time.
I told a client recently that I would be unavailable this weekend no matter the circumstances. He seemed a bit surprised until I told him why. Everyone understands how important it is to take this time and build special memories. I’m blessed to be almost 40 and still have many of my grandparents by my side. I’ve built 40 years of memories that will carry me through the rest of my life but I’m hungry for more, I always will be. So this weekend we will travel, sing “Happy Birthday”, eat cake, laugh, retell old stories we’ve heard a hundred times, and experience love. That’s what life is all about.
So this weekend, call your mom, your grandfather, or your elderly neighbor and listen to their stories, let them know you care and most of all accept how much they care for you.
Enjoy your weekend!
