Demonstrate Relator in your resume

Relationships, internally and externally, define an organization’s success. Relationships can make or break our success. If you are talented in the Relator theme, you likely build deep relationships and celebrate the success of others.  People succeed under your leadership because they know you care and will advocate for them.  Demonstrate your Relator theme by using these keywords when describing your accomplishments:

  1. People-focused
  2. Advocate
  3. Encouragement
  4. Loyal
  5. Team builder/Team player
  6. Relationship Management (Customer or Vendor)
  7. Network
  8. Support
  9. Cross-collaboration/Cross-functional collaboration
  10. Transformative

Infusing Relator into your interviews

Sharing how your Relator theme impacts your success and your team’s success is key to your interview strategy.  Be sure to share your approach to building lasting relationships that serve you and the organization well.  Share examples of how these relationships have led to success.

Share examples of how care for others and the direct impact it’s had on the organization’s success. Avoid anything that would make the interviewer think you cross personal boundaries or share too much.  Sharing a story about how you build loyalty internally and externally through the Relator theme is also a great idea.

Win negotiations with Relator

As a relator, you build rapport and relationships easily making people want to do business with you.  That quick connection will be advantageous at the negotiation table. Once you know your absolute ‘yes’ and absolute ‘no’ numbers, appeal to the relationship you’re building with the interviewer and your desire for a long-term relationship that will continue to bring success to everyone at the table.  Even if the answer is ‘no’, by laying the foundation for a strong relationship, you can evaluate whether or not a middle ground is something you can live with.  If not, lean into this theme to exit the negotiation gracefully and preserve the relationship with the hiring manager.  You never know when you might cross paths again.

Making Relator the cornerstone of your career strategy

Building and maintaining a strategy throughout your career is key to success. This is especially true during times of job searching or pursuing promotions.  These can be trying times that make even the most talented and confident person doubt their abilities.  Use your Relator talent to identify who in your network you can trust and how to approach them.
